Back Row L-R : Bill Villa (Chaminade Athletics director), Reynold Lum '84 (alumnus), Peggy Chock, Keith Chock, Lydell Fabin, Jeffrey Furukawa '89 (alumnus), Bertram Chock, Fran Marie Patoskie.

The Shea `ohana pledge will help fund the Silverswords locker room in the new athletics facility.

A family with long ties to Chaminade University which counts numerous alumni among its members signed a pledge agreement for a gift of $100,000 to the university to fund the construction of the men’s home team locker room in the planned athletics training and locker room facility.

Gathering on campus to sign the gift agreement, three generations of the Shea family (including representatives from the Chock, Furukawa, Lum, Patoskie and Fabin families) sealed their support for the athletics program. A number of the family members earned their degrees at Chaminade, making them an important legacy family of the university. Their engagement dates back to the very early years of Chaminade’s founding and continues to the present. Family members have served in various leadership capacities within the university and the Chaminade University Educational Foundation (CUEF), with two members (Phyllis Shea ’62 and Keith Chock) presently serving on the board of CUEF. They have been generous donors and athletics supporters over the years.

The purpose of the gift is to help fund the construction of Chaminade’s new Athletics Training Center and Locker Rooms. This building, with completion planned in late 2017, along with the coaching office complex in progress, will replace and greatly expand current antiquated and inadequate facilities. This new building will provide contemporary locker rooms and sports medicine support for Chaminade’s student-athletes as well as appropriate accommodations for visiting teams and game officials. Its planned location is ideal, situated just mauka of the McCabe Gymnasium.

Chaminade University President Bro. Bernard Ploeger said, “We are grateful for this expression of support and generosity from the Shea family. Our student-athletes, coaching staff and campus community will benefit from the family’s generosity.”
