March 9 kicks-off a two-week celebration of Filipino culture. We welcome you to celebrate the accomplishments of your colleague, Dr. Edna Magpantay-Monroe and two of her students, whose work will appear in Pinay: Culture Bearers of the Filipino Diaspora. The book launch will take place Thursday, March 9 at 5:00pm in the Hawai'i State Public Library. A panel discussion will be moderated by the book's editor, Virgie Chattergy, and opens the two-week exhibit of Baro at Habi: Visual Clues to Filipino Culture. The exhibit features Filipino textile and clothing by Big Island artist Iris Viacrusis, and is sponsored by the Filipino Association of University Women. Baro at Habi will feature attire and hand-woven materials of indigenous tribes and religious influences in the Philippines. Archival photos, dolls, and adornments will showcase traditional Filipino clothing and customs.

For more information, visit or call the Art, Music, and Recreation section at 586-3526. Contact the library 10 days in advance to request a sign language interpreter or other accommodations.
