GRANT PROVIDES FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION (ECE) SCHOLARSHIPS

Chaminade University has received a $125,000 grant from The SAMUEL N. and MARY CASTLE FOUNDATION and the Henry & Dorothy Castle Memorial Fund to be used for Early Education Student Scholarships for 2016 and 2017.  The major objectives for the new scholarship funds are to:

  1. Provide opportunities for Early Childhood Education (ECE) undergraduate and graduate students to afford ECE courses at Chaminade University;
  2. Provide opportunities for ECE undergraduate and graduate students to complete their degree programs and obtain ECE state licensure, so they can serve present and future needs of public schools; and
  3. Provide tuition assistance at undergraduate and graduate levels to match tuition increases which have occurred during the last few years.

“Without this scholarship funding many of our students would not be able to take courses which enhance their teaching skills and assists them in achieving their degrees in early childhood education,” said Elizabeth Park, PhD, director of Early Childhood and Montessori Programs and of Castle Teacher Resource Activity Center (CTRAC). “We are grateful for the continued support from the Samuel N. And Mary Castle Foundation through the ECE Castle Scholarships. These scholarships help provide much needed support to those who are passionate in educating our young children.”

ECE courses are offered at Chaminade University through the Office of Professional and Continuing Education in an online/ distance format, which meets the needs of busy adults and working professionals.

For more information, contact Elizabeth Park, PhD, Chaminade's director of Early Childhood and Montessori Programs and of the Castle Teacher Resource Activity Center (CTRAC) at epark@chaminade.edu or (808) 735-4859.
