The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded a $102,845.00 Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant to Chaminade University’s School of Nursing. The funding provides opportunities for Chaminade seniors seeking their Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) degree to participate in summer internships and mentoring relationships in community-based primary care. The project period starts July 01, 2016 and runs through June 30, 2018.
“Our unique program will focus on providing Native Hawaiians and ethnically diverse students who have grown up in Hawaii the opportunity to be taught and mentored in preparation for new BSN roles in primary care in their local communities,” said Gwenevere Anderson, dean of Chaminade’s School of Nursing and director and principal investigator of the HRSA program. “Our program will focus on giving students a sense of place or belonging and on giving them credibility in the communities and cultures in which they live.”
Chaminade University offers a full-time, traditional undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree program.
