Early Childhood Montessori Education Teacher Program people are all smiles at news of re-accreditation.
The Division of Education’s Early Childhood Montessori Education Teacher program was granted full accreditation renewal recently from the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE). The full accreditation status covers MACTE’s maximum period of seven years to end in 2021.
MACTE is the international standard setting and accreditation body for Montessori teacher education and has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education since 1995. It accredits certification programs based on the evidence of a program’s ability to produce qualified Montessori educators and on a program’s ability to monitor and improve its quality.
The MACTE accreditation provides a variety of benefits by verifying that an institution or program has met established standards. Accreditation ensures that standards represent a consensus of values, and that standards and procedures are fairly and consistently applied.
Functions of accreditation identified by the U.S. Department of Education include protection of students, the public, and institution/program, as well as improvement in educational quality. In addition to certifying that an institution/program has met established standards, accreditation assists prospective students in identifying acceptable institutions/programs; assists institutions/programs in determining acceptability of transfer credits; and identifies institutions/programs for the investment of public and private funds.
